PASTORS’ INTERNATIONAL CLUB INDONESIA
(PIC Indonesia)

Background

Indonesia is the fourth most populated country in the world with a total population of 275 million people. Approximately 10% of the population professes to be Christians. One of the largest Christian groups is the Batak people. They number approximately 8.5 million – mostly residing in North Sumatra. Since early 2000’s, Dr. Paul Choo had been going to Indonesia to preach on a regular basis. After having preached in churches all over Indonesia, he decided that the group with the greatest potential for the enlargement of God’s kingdom in Indonesia is the Batak church. Thereafter, he focused his preaching ministry to the Batak churches – preaching and teaching almost every week in different major Batak churches. This method of preaching and teaching was very exhausting, time-consuming, expensive and inefficient.

So, instead of visiting individual churches, PIC Indonesia was formed – with its local chapters in different towns/districts. In this way, larger groups of pastors would gather together in one location to be trained.

PIC Vision:

Empower Indonesian Pastors for Kingdom Growth in the 21st Century.

PIC Mission:

Providing relevant regular training to all Indonesian pastors for free.

History:

PIC Indonesia started in March 2017 in Pematangsiantar, North Sumatera, Indonesia. The Launch was attended by 50 pastors from different church denominations (mostly from Batak churches).

From that humble beginning in Pematangsiantar, PIC Indonesia expanded to 42 PIC Indonesia centres in different towns/districts in Batak Toba, Batak Simalungun, Batak Karo, Batak Angkola, and Batak Pakpak regions in North Sumatera. The pastors and church leaders met once a month to learn different topics on leadership through video recordings of Dr. Paul Choo. After the training sessions, meals were served for the participants, so that pastors from different churches had the opportunity to fellowship and learn from each other.

Besides the leadership training, other workshops such as “Preaching the Gospel Effectively” and “Evangelism in the 21st Century” and “Couples Retreat” were conducted.

PIC Indonesia also arranged international learning trips to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore for its more promising participants.

The COVID-19 pandemic stopped all such activities and PIC Indonesia had to re-strategize its activities to fit the new situation.

Present Activities

1. Evangelism Training

PIC Indonesia was invited to train 60 intern pastors of Gereja Kristen Protestant Simalungun (GKPS) in an Evangelism Training course from February 2021 to October 2021. The pastors were trained once a month through Zoom. Since the successful completion of that course, other churches have requested us to conduct similar Evangelism courses for their intern pastors. A total of 180 intern pastors have been trained in 2021.

2. English Training

PIC Indonesia has trained 543 Indonesian pastors, church leaders, and seminary students through English classes conducted by our team of 60 international teachers/facilitators (from the Philippines, Australia, Canada, and Singapore). We had 3 terms for the year: February-April, May-July and August-October. Through this English training, Indonesian pastors prepare themselves to advance their studies for their Masters/Doctorate degrees abroad.

3. Weekly Sermon Resource

PIC Indonesia website was launched in 2020 and is visited by almost 3,000 people for its resources. A popular resource is the weekly sermon videos and outlines provided by Dr. Paul Choo. These sermon videos and outlines are based on topics and Bible passages according to the common Almanac that is used by all Batak churches.
